This story is a romance (of a sort) between Delphine, a Dream Hunter, and Cratus, a Guardian of Zeus, set against the backdrop of the Gods of Olympus. Cratus has been condemned to suffer for eternity for disobeying Zeus and letting a condemned child live.

The story is set in the present day when a war amongst the Gods has driven Zeus to offer Cratus forgiveness and his god powers back in return for his help to end the war. Delphine is sent by Zeus and Cratus’ sister Nike to seduce him and bring him to her side.

I enjoyed this book overall, although it took me a while to get my head around who was who. The romance part of it was pretty typical – girl meets boy, girl lies, boy finds out and leaves her but forgives her in the end etc. etc. Still though, an engaging read. I will say that I found the character of Delphine to be a bit too naïve and some of her choices are so obviously wrong they don’t ring true and so her character ended up annoying me. It was a bit like the old horror movie when you know the character shouldn’t go to the basement but they do anyway.

The Cratus character was also a bit typecast in the role of the untrusting, broken hero who is turned around by love.

I liked the idea of the ancient Gods and Goddesses still being around, millennia after their time and also the thought that they may walk among us.

Overall a good read although not very original.
